Hylagen Injection
Patients who are afflicted with osteoarthritis in the knees and other areas can often exhaust a number of treatment paths, including medication, physical therapy, and exercise, to feel relief from their symptoms. However, sometimes these remedies do not produce results patients had hoped for. Hyalgen injections may be enough to change that. Hyalgen is a viscosupplementation treatment designed to slow the debilitating process osteoarthritis can cause and help to reduce pain and increase mobility in affected areas. Our orthopaedic surgeons can perform Hyalgen injections in a relatively quick procedure with little to no recovery time.
What Hyalgen Injections Can Do
Hyalgan is the first hyaluronan therapy approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Hyaluronan therapy involves the injection of a solution composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is found in the human body, into joints afflicted with osteoarthritis. This solution acts as a replacement to the natural lubricant and support system inside joints that has been lost or degraded due to arthritis. Hyalgan therapy is considered a treatment, not a drug, and therefore should not interfere with any present medications you may be taking.
Hyalgan injections are typically quick, in-office procedures that are performed over a series of five weeks. Five injections (once per week) are usually necessary in order for you to experience the best results. This treatment is designed not only to significantly reduce pain, but also improve function in the treated area with results that can last for several months.
